I'm a 20-something gay dude from Florida currently living in New York City with my fiance and working on a Nursing degree. Interested in LGBT health, HIV/AIDS research + advocacy, films, books, beer, etc. Just trying to survive one day at a time.
I agree that it’s ridiculous that we still have to protest for LGBT rights, but I believe it’s equally ridiculous to conclude that “women’s rights” and “African-American rights” can be ticked off this checklist so easily. Actually it’s bullshit. Women and people of color (not mutually exclusive groups of people by any means) are still fighting for their rights, even if they have superficial legal rights as citizens of the US. We are not all treated equally. My message to this dude (who oddly enough looks a little like myself), don’t erase other people in your protest for LGBT rights. Equal marriage is not the only thing we should be fighting for. I hope you have learned something since this photo was taken.
